NORTH AMERICAN CENTENARY COMMITTEE (NACC) VISION AND MISSION

The North American Centenary Committee (NACC) was formed in 2020 by South Sudanese communities in North America (US and Canada) to organize and mobilize the citizens of Greater Mundri region (formerly Amadi State) of Western Equatoria State living in the Diaspora to support the commemoration of the centenary celebration of the coming of the Church Missionary Society's Dr.Kenneth Grant Fraser and his wife Eileen to Lui in 1920.
The NACC was initially formed to raise funds for the Centenary Celebrations. This created an opportunity to unite people from Greater Mundri living in South Sudan and around the world. Once the celebrations were concluded, the NACC began to look at socio-economic issues in Greater Mundri with the aim of addressing some of those problems. For the next 100 years, the organization hopes to build on the resources, talents, and experiences of the citizens of Greater Mundri to continue with or improve some the socio-economic developments achieved over the last 100 years.
While the NACC has a long-term vision for the transformation of Greater Mundri into an inclusive and vibrant community, given the unrest in South Sudan, and the resulting insecurity and instability, displacement internally and externally, and economic stagnation, we are compelled to address the immediate needs of the most affected members of Greater Mundri-particularly its children, women, and youth. Therefore, the NACC has initiated small-scale, community-based, self-help projects, known as Quick Win Projects, to save lives, alleviate suffering, strengthen coping mechanisms, and create gainful self-employment opportunities.

Our Vision

A transformed, inclusive, and vibrant Greater Mundri, where all citizens are motivated and inspired to achieve their fullest potential through engagement in sustainable socio-economic development of the region, in conconance with their core values and beliefs.

Our Mission

To embark on resource-based socio-economic development programs in Greater Mundri to create opportunities and encourage the citizens to fulfil their aspirations and unleash their full potential through the power of work, and thereby enhancing their living standards, prosperity, and peacful co-existence.

OUR HISTORY

Dr. Kenneth Fraser, a Scottish retired Army Officer and Medical doctor, his wife Eileen Fraser, his sister-in-law Alice Galbraith, accompanied by Archdeacon Archibald Shaw of Church Missionary Society(CMS) Malek arrived on December 20, 1920, in what is today's Lui, in the Internal ECSS Province of Amadi. By the time DR. Fraser died on January 10, 1935, and his wife Eileen died on March 8, 1946, they had succeeded in establishing the main Church and Hospital in Lui as well as schools and hospitals in all the villages of the Sub-Chiefs managed by trained teachers and nurses. They succeeded in bringing Christianity and enlightenment to one of Sudan's hinterlands.
Over 100 years, the number of Christians has grown from an individual into a full Internal Province of the Episcopal Church of South Sudan (ECSS), with four Dioceses, Mundri, Lui, Yeri, and Wandi. In education, schools have flourished all over the area, ranging from primary to secondary schools; and as a result, approximately, over 80% of the citizens of the state are literate. Additionally, to the credit of the Frazers, the first three medical doctors in South Sudan came from the education program in the area were far more superior to any of the other medical services in Southern Sudan. Under that program, endemic diseases such as yaws and leprosy were elimated and venereal diseases and sleeping sickness were contained. Additionally, the graduates of the nurse training program at Lui staffed the health and medical services all over South Sudan, such as the hospitals in Juba, Malakal, Rumbek, Bor, Maridi, Li Rangu and many other parts of the Country.
The Centenary Celebration was initiated by the ECSS Internal Province of Amadi under the patronage of the Chairman and Patron of the High Committee of the Centenary Celebration (HCCC), The Rt Rev.Bishop Bismark M.Avokaya. The North American Centenary Celebration Committee headed by Reverend Joseph Elionai as Chairman, is part of the international effort by the Moru People and their compatriots and friends to commemorate and celebrate the 100 years of the advent of Christianity and Enlightenment in Amadi State. In conjunction with compatriots in South Sudan and in the Diaspora, the committee developed a comprehensive plan and efforts, supported by Friends of the Moru People, under the overall guidance of the Chairman and Patron of the High Committee of the Centenary Celebration (HCCC) to implement a successful Centenary Celebration as the contribution of the Moru Community in North America to the world-wide Centenary Celebration anchored and beamed from Lui, South Sudan. The celebration, held December 20-22,2021, was a success.
